Several gaming tribes have donated $8,100 to Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-New Mexico), the Associated Press reports.
The Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation in California gave $2,000; the Morongo Band of Mission Indians in California donated $2,000; the Hoopa Valley Tribe in California contributed $2,100; the Saginaw Chippewa Tribe in Michigan donated $1,000; and the Pechanga Band of Mission Indians in California, gave $1,000.
Bingaman is one of a dozen senators holding up a bill to S.2078, a controversial bill to amend the Indian
Gaming Regulatory Act. He is concerned that provisions to give the National Indian Gaming Commission more power go too far.
