Gaming interests give big to Wisconsin governor

Gaming interests have donated more than $1 million to Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle (D), who signed new compacts that allow tribes to expand their casinos.

An analysis by the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign found that the biggest donor was businessman Dennis Troha and his family. From 2002 to 2005, the Trohas gave nearly $237,000 to Doyle.

Troha partnered with the Menominee Nation of Wisconsin and the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut to open an off-reservation casino in Kenosha. The proposal would need Doyle's approval.

Other gaming tribes and gaming interests have donated to Doyle and the Democratic party in Wisconsin.
