Turtle Mountain Band weighs Class II casino

The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians may open a Class II facility if the state of North Dakota won't agree to an off-reservation casino.

The tribe wants negotiate a Class III compact with Gov. John Hoeven (R) but he hasn't been supportive. So the tribe is considering a Class II facility on land that is already held in trust.

Attorney general Wayne Stenehjem met with tribal officials last week and told them the state won't be able to do anything about a Class II facility.
