The Grand Ronde Tribes of Oregon recently signed an amended gaming compact with Gov. Ted Kulongoski (D).
The deal allows the tribe to add 33 percent more slot machines and table games at the Spirit Mountain Casino. It was signed on March 22 and awaits federal approval.
The same day the compact was signed, the tribe spent $204,000 on television ads that criticized Kulongoski for agreeing to an off-reservation casino for the Warm Springs Tribes.
But Grand Ronde Chairwoman Cheryle Kennedy and Kulongoski said the timing was a coincidence.
