Oneida Nation casino faces questions after ruling

New York attorney general Eliot Spitzer said he will look into possible legal action against the Oneida Nation after the state's highest court ruled that the tribe's compact was invalid.

Spitzer said he will confer with outgoing Gov. George Pataki (R) about the future of the Turning Stone Casino and Resort. Spitzer is seeking the Democratic nomination for governor.

The casino is operating under a compact that was approved by the federal government but was deemed invalid by the courts because it was not approved by the state legislature. The casino is located on land that is not held in trust but is within the historic Oneida Reservation.
