Seneca-Cayuga Tribe defends out-of-state casino

The Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma is defending its right to seek a casino in New York.

The tribe opened a Class II facility on ancestral land in New York. But the status of the facility was placed in doubt when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that tribes must follow the land-into-trust process before claiming sovereignty on ancestral lands.

The tribe says it has the right under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act to conduct Class II gaming. But the Cayuga Nation in New York is arguing that IGRA bars tribes from engaging in gaming in more than one state.
