The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians broke ground on a new casino hotel on Monday.
The 16-story, 344-room hotel is located at the tribe's casino near Rancho Mirage. Local officials have expressed objections to the project and negotiations are ongoing.
The tribe has made a large number of concessions for the $185 million hotel, which will managed directly by the tribe.
