Kansas attorney general Phill Kline still hasn't responded to a federal appeals court ruling that rebuked him for "bypassing" legal channels and raiding the Wyandotte Nation's casino in downtown Kansas City.
Kline authorized the April 2004 raid on the tribe's trust land. But he had "no legal basis" to do so, the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled on Friday, ordering the state to return more than $1.25 million in cash and equipment to the tribe [Indianz.Com: Wyandotte Nation wins ruling on Kansas gaming site].
Conly Schulte, an attorney for the tribe, called the decision "“a grand slam for the Wyandotte Nation and for all Indian nations battling state intrusion upon tribal jurisdiction," The Kansas City Star reported.
