Riverboat casino wants to move to tribe's parish

A riverboat casino damaged in Hurricane Katrina is seeking to move to the same parish in Louisiana where the Chitimacha Tribe's casino is located.

The Belle of New Orleans says officials in St. Mary Parish are open to the idea. But former governor Mike Foster (D) says the tribe and its supporters might not like it so much.

"I think it's going to be hard to do with the Chitimachas down here," Foster told The Lafayette Daily Advertiser. "They're pretty well liked, the biggest employer in the area and they've had a lot of outreach."

The St. Mary Parish Council is voting on four resolutions tonight to pave the way for the riverboat casino to land, The Daily Advertiser said.
