Two Chippewa tribes in Wisconsin who want to open an off-reservation casino have sent their environmental impact statement to the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Washington, D.C.
The St. Croix and Bad River bands of Lake Superior Chippewa hope the BIA will recommend approval of the project. They want to open a casino in Beloit, near the Wisconsin-Illinois border.
The EIS addresses archaeological, historical and cultural issues, air quality, water quality, health and safety, traffic and other issues. The Midwest Regional Office of the BIA determined there would be no significant impacts in any of the areas.
