The Spokane Tribe of Washington is moving forward with plans to develop an off-reservation casino.
The tribe is close to a new compact with the state that would allow the casino. Deals are also being finalized with Spokane County and the city of Airway Heights, where the casino would be located.
The off-reservation casino would need approval of the Interior Department as well. Only three tribes -- including the Kalispel Tribe of Washington -- have successfully opened casinos under the two-part determination process under Section 20 of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.
The casino would be the biggest in the Inland Northwest, with a 200-room hotel, a 2,000-seat concert hall. Annual revenues are projected at $142 million by 2010.
