The Narragansett Tribe of Rhode Island held a pro-casino rally on Thursday amid a new poll that shows the casino question trailing by 13 points.
The tribe and its partner, Harrah's Entertainment, are asking voters to amend the state constitution to authorize the casino. But only 39 percent support the project, compared to 52 percent who oppose it, according to the Channel 12 poll.
The state's biggest newspaper, The Providence Journal, and other news outlets have endorsed the casino. The tribe has go through state voters because a rider prevents the tribe from engaging in gaming under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.
