The trustees in Lawrence Township, Ohio, voted 2-1 to oppose the Eastern Shawnee Tribe's proposed casino.
The town will send a letter to the Bureau of Indian Affairs, President Bush and other elected leaders. "The Shawnee say they won’t come to the area where they’re not wanted and this is our way of saying you’re not wanted," one trustee told The Massillon Independent. "We’re getting tired of hearing about it and wish it would go away."
The tribe filed a land claim in Ohio and says it will settle for gaming rights. Several sites across the state are being considered.
