Former Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln C. Almond (R) is being announced as the new leader of a group fighting the Narragansett Tribe's proposed casino.
Almond will chair the Save Our State coalition. The group's former leader resigned and later said he does not oppose gaming.
Almond says he is coming out of political retirement because gaming is destructive. He also says the casino proposed by the tribe and Harrah's Entertainment is a bad deal for the state.
The tribe is asking voters to amend o the state constitution to authorize a casino in the town of West Warwick. The issue is on the November ballot.
