The city of Allegan voted to file an amicus brief to support the Match-e-be-nash-she-wish Band of Potawatomi Indians of Michigan.
The band, also known as the Gun Lake Tribe, is seeking to have 147 acres placed in trust for an initial reservation. Part of the land will be used for a casino.
A group called Michigan Gambling Opposition has held up the land-into-trust application but the tribe has secured the support of local governments and groups. The courts have sided with another Michigan tribe in a similar case.
