Rep. Richard Pombo (R-California), the chairman of the House Resources Committee, introduced a bill on Tuesday to amend Section 20 of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.
H.R.4893 would bar tribes from crossing state lines to open casinos and modifies the criteria for acquiring off-reservation land by requiring a tribe to demonstrate connections to the land. A provision granting local government approval power over land-into-trust acquisitions was removed
The text of the bill is not yet available in Thomas, the Congressional database. A hearing will be held next week.
