Quechan Nation sues state over delayed compact

The Quechan Nation made good on its promise to sue the state of California over a delayed gaming compact.

The tribe, based in California and Arizona, negotiated a compact with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R). It ran into opposition from other tribes and state lawmakers, who refused to ratify the deal.

To resolve the stalemate, the tribe wants a federal judge to appoint a mediator. The tribe and the state would submit their final offers and the mediator would choose one of the two.
