Judge reaffirms Catawba Nation's gaming rights

A judge in South Carolina reaffirmed his earlier ruling in favor of the gaming rights of the Catawba Nation.

The tribe has a right to offer video poker even if it is outlawed in the rest of the state, the judge ruled. At issue was a 1993 act of Congress that settled the tribe's land claims and put the tribe under state jurisdiction.

State attorney general Henry McMaster said he will take the case to the state Supreme Court.
