Leaders of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians have dropped a proposal to sell liquor at the tribal casino.
Norma Moss, the chairwoman of the gaming board, said it was the wrong time to bring up the issue. She cited "a lot of emotion" about the proposed referendum, The Knoxville News Sentinel reported.
The decision came at a tribal council meeting. Tribal members packed the meeting and were prepared to speak out, both for and against, the proposal.
