Voters in Yuba County, California, rejected an off-reservation casino for the Enterprise Rancheria, according to unofficial results.
Measure G was a nonbinding measure that sought support for a casino on 40 acres outside reservation land. Results showed voters rejecting it by 52 percent to 48 percent.
Two successful tribes with casinos outside the county spent $300,000 to fight Measure G. Enterprise Rancheria Chair Glenda Nelson accused the tribes of a "campaign of fear and lies."
Without local support, it may be harder for the tribe to negotiate a compact with the state and acquire land in trust through the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
