Arizona tribes show increase in gaming revenue

Revenues at Arizona's tribal casinos grew in the last quarter, indicated by a 22 percent increase in the payments made to the state.

Tribes gave $22.8 million to the state from July 1 to September 30, the Arizona Department of Gaming reported. The money comes from compacts that requires the tribes to share between 1 to 8 percent of revenues -- the more they make, the more they share.

Sheila Morago, the executive director of the Arizona Indian Gaming Association, said the jump in revenues reflected an overall improvement in the hospitality industry.
