Tribal opponent to leave anti-gaming group

Jeff Benedict, an opponent of tribes in Connecticut, is leaving the Connecticut Alliance Against Casino Expansion, an anti-gaming group.

Benedict said he accomplished his goals as president now that the Bureau of Indian Affairs has denied recognition to two Connecticut tribes. He was fighting the tribes in hopes of preventing more casinos in the state.

Benedict said he would write books and build a law practice. He wrote a controversial book that questioned the legitimacy of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation.
