Sheriff's deputies in Fresno County, California, kicked gamblers out of the Mono Wind Casino on Wednesday and shut it down in order to collect a $700,000 judgment against the casino.
The casino is expected to reopen today. It is operated by the North Fork Band of Mono Indians and is the smallest in the Fresno area, according to KFSN News.
The tribe is seeking to open a bigger casino on non-reservation land near Fresno. State Sen. Dean Florez (D) has introduced emergency legislation aimed at stopping the casino by requiring voter approval for off-reservation gaming.
Earlier this year, Florez attended and spoke at the California Nations Indian Gaming Association's annual conference. He heard from tribal leaders in southern California who oppose off-reservation gaming.
