Wyoming governor accepts Indian gaming decision

Wyoming Gov. Dave Freudenthal (R) said on Tuesday the state will abide by a court decision that recognized the right of tribes to offer Class III gaming.

"I got whipped," Freudenthal said at the Wind River Native American Conference, The Casper Star Tribune reported.

The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals reaffirmed on July 11, 2005, that the Northern Arapaho Tribe can offer the "full gamut" of Class III games. The state had argued for a much limited set of games.

In response to the ruling, Freudenthal said he will work with the tribe and local communities on gaming. He said the Eastern Shoshone Tribe, which just created a gaming commission, is also interested in a casino.

Both tribes reside on the Wind River Reservation and are the only tribes in the state.
