Editorial: Regulation of Indian gaming is working

"Arizona Indian tribes have opened 22 casinos and earned a reputation for careful oversight of those gambling venues in the 12 years since gaming was approved in the state.

Indeed, more than a year ago, the Arizona Association of Casino Executives was founded by Joseph Calabrese, chief executive of the Tohono O'odham Gaming Enterprise, operator of both Desert Diamond casinos near Tucson.

The association brings together executives of tribal casinos throughout the state to ensure 'a safe gaming environment free of crime,' says Dan Quigley, general counsel to the O'odham casinos."
