Michigan tribe wants to intervene in casino case

The Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatomi Indians of Michigan [Web Site] filed a motion to intervene in a lawsuit challenging the tribe's plans for a casino.

The tribe received an initial designation for a 146-acre reservation. Plans call for a 200,000-square-foot casino on the land.

A group called Michigan Gambling Opposition filed suit against the Bureau of Indian Affairs to stop the land from being acquired. The tribe says its interests in the case need to be represented.
