Catawba Nation files suit to offer video poker

The Catawba Nation filed suit against the state of South Carolina on Thursday, seeking approval to offer video poker.

The tribe says the state violated a 1993 settlement act. The law put the tribe under state gaming laws and limited the tribe to two bingo halls.

Bingo has since become less lucrative so the tribe wants to offer video poker on the reservation. The tribe says the state violated the agreement by authorizing a state lottery and imposing fees on the bingo hall.
