Tribes make changes to off-reservation application

Two Wisconsin tribes have made changed to the off-reservation casino application in response to complaints by local officials and another tribe.

The Bad River Band and the St. Croix Band want 26 acres in Beloit, Wisconsin, placed in trust. They filed the initial application with the Bureau of Indian Affairs six years ago.

The tribes have since conducted a new economic impact study in response to local opposition. The tribes also completed an archaeological study in response to objections from the Ho-Chunk Nation, which said the casino might affect burial grounds. That didn't turn out to be true, The Rockford Register Star reported.
