"Here's a good bet. Florida's gaming business, fueled by upscale Indian tribe casinos and changing rules on slot machines, is moving into the fast lane. Indian casinos took in $862-million in gaming revenues last year. That's a 34 percent gain from $642-million in 2003.
That puts Florida ahead of the national pace. Nationally, 228 tribes operated 405 gaming facilities in 30 states, generating $19-billion in gaming revenue last year. That's up 12 percent from 2003.
Not many Florida industries are growing with that kind of double-digit momentum. Technology? Not any more. Bioscience? Not yet. Tourism? Not even close."
