Eastern Cherokees expect positive casino merger

The Eastern Band of Cherokees say the merger of Harrah's Entertainment, its gaming partner, and Caesars Entertainment will have a positive effect on its profitable casino in North Carolina.

The tribe employs over 1,700 at the casino, which is managed by Harrah's. Executives say the merger won't impact any jobs and that the tribe will continue to have control over a possible expansion.

The tribe wants to offer Class III table games and is talking with Gov. Mike Easley (D) about a compact.
