Eastern Cherokees tout benefits of table games

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians says the addition of Class III table games at its casino will create up to 2,100 jobs and draw more tourists to the region.

The benefits are outlined in documents sent to North Carolina Gov. Mike Easley (D). The tribe wants to negotiate with Easley for a Class III compact.

The tribe wants to offer live poker, craps, roulette, blackjack and other games as well as build a new casino. If the plans proceed, up to 2,100 jobs would be created, the tribe says.
