Survey cites opposition to off-reservation casino

A survey released by a California lawmaker says 94 percent of residents oppose a proposed off-reservation casino in the Bay Area.

Assemblywoman Wilma Chan, a Democrat, is fighting plans by the Lower Lake Rancheria-Koi Nation to build a casino near the Oakland airport. She says local views should play a role in whether the state and federal government should approve the casino.

The Koi Nation was placed back on the list of federally recognized entities in January 2001 after the Bureau of Indian Affairs determined that the tribe was never terminated.
