Maine governor mum on tribal slot machine bill

Maine Gov. John Baldacci (D) has not said whether he will support or veto a bill to allow the Passamaquoddy Tribe to open a racetrack with slot machines.

Baldacci has said he opposes any expansion of gaming but also that he supports economic development for the state's tribes and in Washington County, where the racino would be located. Lawmakers say he faces a "no-win" situation if the bill is approved by the Legislature.

The tribe's bill has passed a committee vote.
