California tribe promotes off-reservation casino

Leaders of the Timbisha Shoshone Tribe say their plans for an off-reservation casino in Hesperia, California, are moving forward.

The tribe has a reservation in Death Valley but gaming is not allowed there. The tribe says it has a right to seek land elsewhere for economic development.

There is some confusion over the plans because two rival councils claim control of the tribe. Both factions are working with different developers.
