Senate, House to hold gaming hearings on Wednesday

The Senate Indian Affairs Committee and the House Resources Committee are holding separate hearings on gaming on Wednesday.

The Senate hearing is an oversight hearing on the regulation of Indian gaming. Committee chairman John McCain (R-Arizona) has expressed concerns about off-reservation casinos and the influence of gaming interests in the federal recognition process.

The House hearing is an oversight hearing on tribes who are seeking off-reservation casinos in other states. Committee chairman Richard Pombo (R-California) is drafting a bill to limit off-reservation gaming to certain areas in a state.
