Santee Sioux Tribe sues to expand Class III games

The Santee Sioux Tribe of Nebraska has filed a lawsuit seeking to expand the kinds of Class III games it can offer at its casino.

The tribe says the Interior Department wrongly denied the tribe the right to offer video poker, blackjack, roulette and other games. The tribe says it needs revenue from the games to survive.

The state of Nebraska refused to negotiate a Class III compact. So Interior issued a scope-of-gaming ruling that limited the tribe to lotteries, keno and on-track betting. The tribe offers electronic Class II machines at its tiny casino.
