Minnesota tribes spend big to lobby on gaming

Minnesota tribes spent more than $1.7 million in 2004 to lobby state lawmakers on gaming, according to a report released by the state Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board.

Combined with more than $1 million from three gaming companies, the total amount spent on gaming-related issues last year was $2.8 million. This was the most of any single industry/ issue.

Leech Lake Reservation Business Comm - $40,000
Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Indians-Corp Comm - $460,000
Minn Indian Gaming Assn - $320,000
Prairie Island Dakota Community - $500,000
Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux (Dakota) Community - $160,000
Upper Sioux Community Board of Trustees - $40,000
White Earth Band of Chippewa - $200,000

The Red Lake Band did not file a report as of March 15.
