Governor won't negotiate deal with Jena Band

Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco (D) says she won't negotiate a Class III gaming compact with the Jena Band of Choctaw Indians.

The tribe, recognized in 1995, wants to open a casino on land being acquired for an initial reservation. Tribal lawyer Julie Wilkerson said Class II and Class III gaming are planned.

Class II games do not need state approval. But Blanco said she won't deal with the tribe for Class III games either.
