Massachusetts tribe takes new approach on gaming

Massachusetts' only federally recognized tribe is taking a new approach to gaming after its massive lobbying effort failed.

The Aquinnah Wampanoag Tribe spent $120,000 to lobby lawmakers two years ago in hopes of legalizing casinos. But chairman Donald Widdiss said the effort didn't pay off.

This year, lawmakers are again looking to legalize gaming but the tribe is waiting on the sidelines for now. Its partnership with the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana for a potential casino expired last year.
