Narragansett Tribe discusses state revenue plan

Leaders of the Narragansett Tribe met with Rhode Island Gov. Don Carcieri (R) on Monday to discuss a proposal to share revenues from the state's only gaming facility.

Carcieri wants 5 percent of revenues from Lincoln Park's slot machines to go to the tribe. Chief Sachem Matthew Thomas supports the concept but said the tribe should be allowed to be a part of the state's gaming industry.

The tribe is again proposing to build its a casino that would be operated by the state but managed by the tribe and Harrah's Entertainment. Legislation was introduced to put the issue on the November ballot.
