Local officials and lawmakers in the Catskills are still on the fence about New York Gov. George Pataki's request to increase the number of casinos there from three to five.
Pataki, a Republican, is expected to submit a bill this week to allow for more casinos. In addition to the three already authorized, he has agreed to allow two out-of-state tribes to build casinos in the Catskills.
Officials in Sullivan County, where the Catskills is located, have yet to vote on Pataki's proposal. A state lawmaker who represents the area wants full hearings.
