Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) said he will sign a bill to allow racetracks in Broward County to offer slot machines.
Bush had campaigned against a ballot initiative that allowed the slot machines. He has since been forced to negotiate Class III compacts with the Seminole Tribe and the Miccosukee Tribe now that slots have been legalized.
Bush claims the bill provides a framework for the compacts. "We now have the floor from which we know where we can go,'' he was quoted by The Miami Herald as saying. He said he will make a "good faith" effort to negotiate a deal.
