The Forest County Potawatomi Tribe has submitted its opposition to an off-reservation casino sought by the Menominee Nation.
The Potawatomi tribe told the Bureau of Indian Affairs that its casino will be hurt if the Menominee land-into-trust application is approved. The Potawatomis say their revenues will take an $89 million hit every year, resulting in a loss of revenues for tribal programs.
Menominee Chairman Michael Chapman said the figures show there is room for two tribal casinos in the Milwaukee area. He said the Potawatomis could expand their casino and tap into the market without losing revenues.
The Menominee Nation is seeking BIA approval to acquire a former dog track and turn it into a Class III casino.
