It's not as big as tribal gaming, but the U.S. military gaming industry is worth at least $2 billion, The New York Times reports.
Slot machines and bingo are offered at military bases around the world. There are about 4,150 slot machines in nine countries and bingo games at home.
The slot machines bring in $120 million in profits to the military. The bingo games offered by the Army bring in much less -- $7 million -- but are more profitable than slots, according to The Times.
The military says it doesn't promote its gambling opportunities but some say young soldiers are vulnerable to addiction. Few treatment programs are available and data is scarce. A study published earlier this year showed that Indian veterans are more likely to be problem gamblers than their Hispanic and non-Indian counterparts.
