The Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma have dropped efforts to open a casino in Pueblo, Colorado.
Tribal members voted 122-5 against a proposed settlement of their land and water rights claims in Colorado. The settlement would have required the tribe to give up all claims in exchange for gaming rights.
The decision prompted Council Tree Communications, the backer of the casino, to pull out. Council Tree's investors included some Alaska Native corporations.
The Pueblo casino was proposed after plans for a casino outside of Denver ran into opposition by Gov. Bill Owens (R).
