A deal has been reached in a record $242 million jury verdict against former investors of the Menominee Nation's non-reservation casino in Wisconsin.
Nii-Jii Entertainment signed a deal to develop the casino for the tribe. But some of the investors found out their partners had ties to organized crime and had felony convictions. The case resulted in a record jury verdict but will be settled for $7.75 million, to be paid by the questionable investors.
The tribe dropped Nii-Jii after concerns were raised about the deal but is still moving forward with the casino at a former dog track with the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut.
