Two California tribes with casinos are the biggest contributors to a campaign against another tribe's casino, The Marysville-Yuba City Appeal-Democrat reports.
The Rumsey Band of Wintun Indians and the United Auburn Indian Community are solely funding a group called "Citizens, Teachers and Law Enforcement Against Measure G." The two tribes donated a total of $150,000 to oppose the non-binding Measure G, which asks voters in Yuba County whether they want a new tribal casino.
The new casino is sought by the Enterprise Rancheria. The tribe plans a $90 million, seven-story hotel-casino on 40 acres of non-reservation land. The tribe needs the land placed in trust.
The Rumsey Band is based in Yolo County, not Yuba County. The United Auburn Indian Community, in Placer County, was able to open its successful casino on non-reservation land under a decision by the Bush administration.
The Appeal-Democrat tied the donations to the tribes their attorney Howard Dickstein, who is listed as the treasure for the anti-Measure G group.
