Charitable groups and other tribes are lining up to oppose an off-reservation casino proposed by the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians.
The tribe held two meetings in Grand Forks, North Dakota, on Tuesday to present the idea. Officials said they face an uphill and potentially lengthy battle to open a casino in the city.
At the meetings, charities and tribes said an urban casino would hurt their efforts.
The North Dakota Indian Gaming Association, of which Turtle Mountain is a member, opposes the proposal.
