The Jamul Indian Village plans to build a 30-story hotel and casino on its six-acre reservation, tribal leaders announced on Tuesday.
The tribe originally wanted to open a casino on non-reservation land near San Diego. But the proposal has run into opposition. The county won't negotiate an agreement as requested by the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
So the tribe said it will stay on its small reservation, where just four acres are available for development. Once built, the tower would be the county's tallest building outside of downtown San Diego.
