The Madera County, California, Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 on Tuesday to support the casino proposed by the North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians.
The tribe plans to build a Class III gaming facility in 305 acres on non-reservation land.
The site is located near the Madera Municipal Airport.
The Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians is opposed to the proposal. Chairwoman Joyce Burel said the county should hold a vote on "reservation shopping." The tribe has a casino on its reservation.
